Our luck held out at Abergavenny - the hurricane and downpour that was forecast didn’t materialise! This was different from our usual gigs- not quite a parade, not quite a static set. We played at different locations in the town, with the Mayor walking with us. Turns out he was pretty good drummer in his youth, so we ended up with him banging a couple of surdos. We’re hoping this will become one of our regular slots! |
Great busk with Samba Doc last week. They were on their annual tour of Wales and the West of England, so it was a fantastic opportunity to meet up with them again - they are so energetic, and have some great new rhythms to teach us. Looking forward to linking up with them again when we are in Pembrokeshire later this year. |
Samba Doc, our lovely friends from Pembroke Dock, will be in Cardiff on Friday 20th September doing one of their regular tours of Wales. We’re going to join them in the city centre around 6.30 pm for a busking session - this is a great chance for us to exchange ideas and rhythms! For us, it’s a great little “taster” for next year’s Encontro, when we will be inviting sambe bands from all over the UK to descend on Barry for a weekend of drumming and good times. |
Lovely turn out supporting LBGTQ+ Pride in Caerphilly - bit warm! We'll be back in Caerphilly in December for the River of Light |
So great to be back parading through the town for Monmouth Carnival! Who didn't get shivers when the Monmouth Male Voice Choir kicked it all off, flash-mob sytle. Shout out to Batala Bristol who were awesome as always. |
Our fab Schools Workshop team had a wonderful time at Albert Primary School in Penarth today. Both groups of year 1 pupils learnt new rhythms and finished up with parade around the playground. It was a brilliant day, we really did have a good laugh - and the children enjoyed it too! ? |
We’re playing again at Monmouth Carnival! This is one of our regular gigs, always a great one with a real party atmosphere. We’ll be leading the parade, and playing a static set, in one of Wales’ most historic market towns. A great day out! |
Fantastic gig yesterday playing during the half time break in the semi-final of the 2023 Wheelchair Rugby European Championships at the Principality Stadium! Great win for GB Wheelchair Rugby vs Germany to go forward to the final ? Absolutely brilliant to be invited to play! What an atmosphere! |
Don’t miss us playing for the European Wheelchair Rugby Championships at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium! We’re delighted to be involved in this wonderful celebration of athletic prowess. We’ll be playing during half-time and warm-up sessions, and we’re really looking forward to seeing the games live. |
If you’d told us in advance that banging drums in the middle of a roundabout in Newport would be fun, we wouldn’t have believed you! But that was Newport Marathon. It was an early start for us, but we had a great day encouraging the runners - everyone from the serious athletes through to the fun-runners. One of our regular gigs, and one we always love! |
Cold, damp and breezy - but we managed to bring a taste of the Tropics to Cardiff for the Women’s Internation Friendly match against Northern Ireland. A great event, and we were proud to have contributed to the fantastic result for the Wales team! |
