No previous experience necessary!

Free Starter Session on Saturday 11 January 2020, 11am-1pm. An opportunity to attend one of our regular workshops, meet the band and try out some of our instruments or dances.

10-session Access Course starting on Saturday 1 February 2020, 1.30-2.30pm. The Access course is £50 (£30 for non-earners).

At the end you can join the main band or the dance group. Simple as that! We are always glad to see new members, so those joining at the end of the course will have plenty of help settling in. There will still be plenty to learn, which is what makes samba such fun. Even those who have been in the band for twenty years or more are still learning, so you won’t be alone!

Drumming courses

You don’t need any previous musical experience, and in fact only a few of us play other instruments. We don’t expect you to be able to walk in off the street and start banging a drum. There is a lot to learn including basic rhythms and how they fit together and how to interpret our leader’s signals
but you will be given support and help as you pick up the beats.

If you already play an instrument, samba will improve your sense of timing
and add another dimension to your playing.

Our introductory dance course is led by Sallie MacLennan. It’s a great way to try something new and get active! The style is funky, it’s Brazilian, it’s fun and it’s all taught from scratch. You can learn at your own pace whilst dancing to live beats from some of our percussionists!

And more…

As well as practising and performing together, the band have frequent ‘jollies’, where we go off to somewhere new for a social weekend. We generally take a range of instruments (and voices) to provide evening entertainment.

Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions about joining – we’ll be more than happy to help!
