7:30 pm - 10:00 pm Barry Island
The project has been led by the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Arts Development team, with public realm light artist Simon Fenoulhet and award-winning community engagement artist Tomas Goddard.
This follows the success of both the Eastern Shelter lighting installation, created by international artist Peter Fink, and the ‘Traversing Wall’ created by artist Gordon Young, which reflects the seaside and memories of bygone days, attracting climbers of all ages and abilities.
The Council has carried out maintenance to preserve the Western Shelter as part of the regeneration programme of Barry Island for residents and visitors to the area.
The artists have been engaging with community groups, schools, dog walkers, and local shop owners, and those who live, visit and work on the island to discuss and create ideas for the development of the lighting installation.
A procession will begin to gather at 8:00pm at the Climbing wall Eastern Shelter and then parade along the promenade to the Western Shelter.
The former Red Coats who worked at Barry Island Bullins, will join the parade and samba band, Samba Galêz, will provide the entertainment. Countdown to the lights switch on will begin at 9.45pm.
